Israeli cloud security startup Gem Security launches with $11M in funding

Israeli cloud security startup Gem Security Inc. today launched out of stealth mode with the announcement of $11 million in funding and its first product, Cloud TDIR, a threat detection, investigation and response platform.

Co-founded by Chief Executive Officer Arie Zilberstein, Chief Technology Officer Ron Konigsberg and Vice President of Product Ofir Brukner, all former members of the Israeli Intelligence Corps Unit 8200, Gem Security offers a platform that bridges the gap between security operations and cloud complexity.

The company argues that as the adoption of cloud infrastructure increases the attack surface of organizations, legacy approaches fall short of providing solutions for the cloud era. Gem Security claims to go beyond legacy services, helping organizations implement a continuous, risk-based program to manage their threat exposure.

The Gem Security platform leverages existing infrastructure and solutions while offering unique automated detection, investigation and response capabilities purposely built for cloud environments. The platform supports all major infrastructure platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Kubernetes. It also integrates with identity providers, source code repositories and secrets managers, leveraging the additional data for context analysis.

Organizations using Cloud TDIR can optimize coverage via a continuous Cloud Incident Readiness dashboard that detects attacks through real-time, cloud-native threat detection and behavioral analytics. Enriched context across the entirety of cloud infrastructure allows users to instantly undertake root cause analysis if an attacker successfully gains access and respond to the attack by isolating risks using cloud-native entity quarantine capabilities.

Although only now officially launching out of stealth, Gem Security is already working with companies ranging from midmarket to Fortune 500.

“Most cloud security solutions focus on building a wall that is as tall as possible to make sure the bad guys stay out,” Zilberstein said. “However, no wall is ever going to be tall enough. We offer a more realistic approach,” empowering teams “to find and stop the intruder, automating incident response and ensuring there is no escalation.”
