Based on security, compliance and cost reasons, enterprises are finding themselves needing a mix of both cloud and on-premise worlds.

For a true hybrid cloud experience when it comes to workload placement, HPE GreenLake for VMware Cloud Foundation acts as an on-prem cloud service for enhanced predictability, operational efficiency and data sovereignty, according to Bryan Thompson (pictured), vice president of GreenLake cloud product management at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.

“It’s really how do I find the optimal surface area to run depending on workflow?” Thompson asked. “There are a number of use cases and scenarios where businesses are finding running an on-prem is more cost-effective. It comes down to what’s my total cost. HPE GreenLake for VCF as a new solution and we’re starting to build more and more momentum there.”

Thompson spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and Rob Strechay at VMware Explore 2023, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how the HPE-VMware Inc. partnership is delivering innovations, such as HPE GreenLake for VCF. (* Disclosure below.)

HPE GreenLake borrows a leaf from hyperscalers

HPE GreenLake goes beyond being a reference architecture because it mimics the agility and experience of hyperscalers because of elasticity on demand. As a result, enterprises do not find themselves locked up when it comes to issues, such as pre-provisioning, according to Thompson.

“What is GreenLake?” he asked. “It’s really that IT as a service consumption model. How do I deliver these solutions in a consumption experience? GreenLake isn’t just one thing, it’s really a portfolio of services because we see that same spectrum.”

By joining hands, HPE and VMware avail a modern and fully integrated hybrid cloud experience through the HPE GreenLake for VCF offering, according to Thompson. This plays an instrumental role in boosting productivity.

“HPE has been a part of VMware for 22 years,” he stated. “If you think about the history of joint innovation up to and including during that time, they were owned by Dell. It’s an edge platform technology that’s consumed by a broad swath of customers. We have rich heritage and expertise optimizing architectures, hardware solutions to deliver that service.”
