Automating at 99% accuracy, Intel is awarded at UiPath AI10

One of the world’s largest chipmakers recently won recognition for leveraging AI-powered automation to achieve transformational business results.

Intel Corp. was one of the organizations recognized in the inaugural UiPath AI10 Awards program this month. The company received recognition for automating a manually intensive process in its global trade organization that would accurately handle changing product codes for shipment of goods to countries around the world.

“In 25 weeks, we’ve done 35,000 products at 99% accuracy,” said Siddharth Shah (pictured, second from left), Automation Leader at Intel. “We have an ingestion layer where we put the new codes, the model gets retrained every quarter and that’s how we maintain that accuracy. We are transforming how we are doing the work.”

Shah spoke with theCUBE industry analyst Dave Vellante (far right), who was a judge in the awards program, at the UiPath FORWARD event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. He was joined by Jeff Rittener (far left), chief trade officer and general manager, International Trade Group, at Intel, and Maureen Fleming (second from right), program vice president at International Data Corp., and they discussed Intel’s use of AI to transform global shipping. Addressing exports

For a business the size of Intel’s, the shipment of products globally is a highly complex process. Through the use of AI, the company envisions additional ways the technology could be used to transform its trade operations.

“There are several areas where I think we could really utilize this technology,” Rittener said. “One of them is in the area of export controls. We submit export licenses routinely, and to have a program that would take all the data, put it all together in an actual license and submit it, I think we might be able to take advantage of this.”

The awards program provided an opportunity to see the different ways that organizations have deployed new AI tools to streamline business operations. It offered a reminder that AI can have a transformational impact, according to Fleming, who was also a judge in the awards event.

“Anything you can do to speed up and get as many goods to the destination as possible on time has an impact on the cost of the business,” Fleming said. “People are trying to think through what they can do quickly, and other people are saying: ‘How can we do something super high value right away?’ That was a pretty good use case.”
